A BIG "Thank You" to Carl Schultz for his generous Toys for Tots donation!

We would like to extend a BIG "Thank You" to Carl Schultz!!

Carl made a large donation on behalf of Sealant Equipment & Engineering, Inc. for our Toys for Tots drive and we are so thankful to him! As you know this year our donations are down from last year, so each and every donation is very important to us and our continuing effort to make this year's drive a success.

Donations Needed for Toys for Tots

Here at Dick Scott, we would like to say “Thank You!” to all the generous donors that have brought in toys for this year’s Toys For Tots toy drive. We are still accepting toys until Monday, December 14th, 2009.

As toy donations are down quite a bit this year, we are hoping to get the word out to anyone in the position to help. Remember, ANYONE who brings in even just ONE New, Unwrapped Toy to donate to Toys for Tots to any Dick Scott location will receive a coupon good for $10.00 off your next Lube, Oil & Filter change AND 15% off parts and labor on any maintenance service performed at ANY of our Service Departments. So please consider donating to this important cause.

There are many families struggling this year to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table who are unable to afford Christmas gifts this year. Walmart and many other retailers are advertising their lowest prices of the season this week with many toys $5.00 - $10.00 each and with Buy-one-get-one-Free offers. While you are out shopping this week, please keep the Toys For Tots program in mind.

Help us help the “Toys For Tots” program make this year special for as many boys and girls as possible!

Sincerely,

Dick Scott Automotive Group

Postponed Check-ups lead to Expensive Procedures

Postponed Check-ups lead to Expensive Procedures
Preventative Care is a Key Step for Healthy Vehicles

Tough economic times might tempt vehicle owners to delay seemingly minor service and repairs. But saving a few dollars today can be very costly in the long run.

“Sometimes a customer is skeptical about the urgency of a recommended repair.” Explained Jim Grove, Service Director at Dick Scott Dodge. “Yet, several affordable services are key to maintaining vehicle safety, efficiency and performance while preventing costly repairs down the road.”

Service advisors at Dick Scott Dodge in Plymouth cite a recent report by U.S. News and World Report “6 Car Repairs You Can’t Afford to Skip” as an important list for helping vehicle owners prioritize the maintenance needs of their vehicles.

The magazine identifies worn brake pads, oil changes, air filters, transmission fluid leaks, burned out lights and clogged fuel filters as the six important vehicle car items that should not be postponed.

For example, replacing a dirty air filter can cost as little as $15.00. But if a dirty air filter prevents the engine from getting enough air, spark plugs can fail. Replacing the spark plugs is a significantly more expensive repair costing up to $300, depending on the engine.

During a routine inspection, the service department at Dick Scott Dodge will check to see if the vehicle needs any factory-recommended service actions. Often, these services and repairs are performed at no cost.

Another free service for Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge Car and Ram Trucks vehicles is computer software updates. Using Chrysler Group LLC’s unique wiTECH tool, service technicians can identify any software updates available and make revisions within minutes. Modern vehicles contain sophisticated computer programs that benefit from occasional updates, similar to personal computers, to keep vehicle and features operating their best.

“In addition to having your vehicle inspected by a factory-trained service technician, there are several simple steps owners can take to prepare their vehicle for fall and winter,” said Grove.

- Check tire pressure: Tire pressure can fluctuate with temperature changes. If the vehicle is not equipped with a tire-pressure monitoring system, check on or near the driver’s-side door for the correct pressure. Properly inflated tires can improve fuel economy by 3.3 percent.
- Inspect wiper blades: Streaking, limited visibility, blade tearing or noisy wiper blade operations are the telltale signs that wipers need replacing.
- Prepare for snow removal: Put snow scrapers and brushes in the vehicle before the first snow of the season.
- Pack an emergency kit: Drivers can prepare their own or purchase a safety kit from Mopar that includes a safety flashlight, fleece blanket, six-gage jumper cables, safety triangle, screwdrivers, pliers, two bungee cords and gloves.

“Drivers should always check their owner’s manual for complete information on service and maintenance schedules,” Grove added.

Car Seat Safety

Fall is here, school has started and we are spending a lot more time in our cars now that the cold weather has arrived. Now is the perfect time to remember to make sure your car seat is correctly installed to ensure your child's safety.

If you use the "LATCH System," make sure the LATCH belt is secured to the anchors found in most vehicle seats. LATCH-equipped child safety seats have lower attachments that fasten to the anchors. Most forward-facing child safety seats also have a strap that attaches to the top anchor. Together they make up the LATCH System. If your vehicle or child safety seat are not LATCH-equipped, use a safety belt to secure the seat. For more information on the LATCH system, refer to the owner's manual.

Remember your child must be 1 year old AND weigh at least 20lbs before you can turn your car seat around and have it facing forward. Until then, your seat should remain rear facing. While rear facing the car seat must be buckled in to the vehicle seat tightly. The seat should not move more than one inch from side to side or front to back. The seat should recline so the child's head lies back on the car seat without falling forward. Harness straps should be snug with no slack, and the harness clip should be on the child's chest at armpit level. Again always read the instructions that come with your car seat! Also, NEVER place a car seat in a vehicle seat located in front of an active airbag.

Last but not least, Michigan law requires children younger than age 8 and shorter than 4 feet 9 inches to be properly buckled in a child safety seat or booster seat while riding in a motor vehicle. If your vehicle seats have a head rest, a no-back booster is recommended; a high-back booster is recommended for vehicle seats without a head rest. Booster seats are designed to be used with a lap belt AND shoulder belt, NEVER just a lap belt only! Always be sure to read over the instructions that come with your car seat or booster seat to ensure correct usage to keep your precious cargo as safe as possible!

ENVI’s electric-vehicle technology

A PERSONAL MOBILITY REVOLUTION

Introducing five distinct vehicle platforms with ENVI’s electric-vehicle technology from Chrysler LLC. Chrysler has been hard at work updating the three ENVI-powered Electric Vehicles (EV) you first saw in September 2008. Plus they added two more exciting products to their production-intent lineup. ENVI’s electric-vehicle technology enables a new standard of quiet, smooth and efficient operation.

What That Means For You

• No compromise on performance, agility, space and design
• Instantaneous acceleration and responsiveness
• Continuing to drive the way you drive today
• Being environmentally responsible
• Ability to own one of these electric vehicles as soon as 2010
• At least three more models available by 2013

How It Works

- ENVI’s all-electric EVs provide a 150- to 200-mile driving range on zero gasoline and no tailpipe emissions

- ENVI’s Range-extended Electric Vehicles can travel 40 miles on battery power

- The range extender is a small internal combustion engine and integrated generator that produces electricity that extends the range to 400 miles, using very little gasoline

- Overnight charging with a standard 110-volt household outlet

- Charging time is cut in half with 220-volt household appliance power outlet

Check back for more details on these revolutionary vehicles or visit Chrysler.com for more details

The Nissan Rogue, More Car than SUV

By Nikki McLaughlin
The new Nissan Rogue is one of Nissan’s newer SUV models. However, to the surprise of many SUV owners, after driving the Rogue, it seems to be more car than SUV. With the Rogue, the evolution of the car-based SUV seems to have hit an all time high! It’s mostly car, but does seem to retain plenty of the utility of a SUV.

It rides like a car, very smooth and comfortable. It handles like a car, taking curves with well-controlled lean. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 8.3 seconds which is an amazing accomplishment considering its four-cylinder engine and continuously variable transmission. The 2.5L churns out 170 horsepower and drives the front-wheels. All-wheel drive is available for mainly on-road usage.

The Rogue also comes nicely equipped for the driver, the lightly bolstered seats are high for a good driving position, and the radio has only one round knob not two. It also has two large, truck-like, side view mirrors. Don’t forget the ample passenger space and the large luggage storage that makes this SUV perfect for everyday driving or long distance travel.

The four-wheel disc brakes are anti-locking to go with vehicle dynamic control.

This SUV also comes competitively priced starting around $21,000 but not skimping on the equipment. The base model comes standard with tilt steering column, cruise control, A/C, trip computer and what Nissan calls “Mood Lighting.”

Even the premium package won’t break your budget, at $25,400 you add an amazing sound system, fog lights, built in navigation system, and audio controls on the steering wheel. There is pre-wiring for a towing hitch, but the maximum weight is only 1,500 pounds, which is still not bad for all the other great features you are getting.

Don’t forget one of the highest fuel economy ratings for an SUV at 22 city and 27 highway, except for when towing.

Now you can have the best of both worlds, and SUV for extra interior room plus all your utility needs, and the benefit of higher fuel economy and sharper handling for everyday city driving. Nissan has really out done themselves on this one of a kind SUV!

New Indian Riders Group

Attention all riders! Dick Scott’s Indian Motorcycle Detroit is going to establish a chapter of the Indian Riders Group. We will be holding an informational meeting at 7:30 on Monday, April 20th.

The first mention of an Indian Riders Group goes back to 1907, when a group of motorcyclists loosely banded together to go riding. The founding fathers of Indian Motorcycle recognized this loyalty, and wanted their dealers to help promote this feeling by urging them to help form local Riders Clubs. They felt that the association of likeminded individuals would increase the overall experience in riding the motorcycle, foster camaraderie among owners, and give hands-on feedback to the dealer on the good and bad points of the bike.

In the 1920’s the motorcycles had ceased being looked upon as pure transportation, but as a sport. Motorcycling was fun and riding a motorcycle was an experience that you could share with your family and friends. The brand of motorcycle one rode gave you bragging rights over your buddies that had the other one and good-natured (most of the time) competition could only make riding better.

A Riders Group reinforces the strong loyalty amongst its family of riders and can better plan and promote activities for all of its participants. Local and regional rallies can be planned and organized and as the organization grows more benefits can be offered to each member so that the Indian experience gets better and better.

We are looking for all riders; all brands are welcome. The only requirement is that you like to ride and have a good time. If you would like to attend and find out more, please RSVP to Jeff Scott at (734) 398-5454 or send an email to jeffscott@dickscott.com

5 Star Safety Ratings for Entire 2009 Ram 1500 Lineup

By Emily Zahm

Safety is a priority for Dodge. That was made clear this week when the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Regular Cab and Quad(R) Cab earned 5-star ratings for driver- and front-passenger protection in a frontal crash, the highest ratings in the U.S. government's safety crash test program. Not only that, but the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab had received the same five-star rating earlier this year, so that now these ratings apply to the entire all-new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 lineup.

The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 offers more than 35 safety and security features. Some of the most impressive include the ParkSense(R) Rear Park Assist System, ParkView(R) Rear Back-up Camera, and Trailer Sway Control System. Check out the full list of safety and security features here.

Strong Retail Sales for Chrysler LLC

By Emily Zahm

Over the last month, Chrysler LLC’s sales throughout the Midwest, the Rockies, and the plains areas of America posted a 31.5% retail increase, and also outpaced industry retail sales by 9%. In addition, for only the second time in history, Chrysler LLC outsold Ford Motor Company, placing Chrysler LLC in the top three volume automotive manufacturers in the United States.

How did Chrysler manage this feat in the face of the current economic climate? "Overall, our retail sales position in February can be attributed to an increase in awareness of our Employee Pricing Plus Plus program. It truly gives our dealers a message that resonates with consumers. We will continue this program in March. In addition, March is Dodge Truck Month, and we will add the availability of 'no charge HEMI(R) on the Ram 1500,'" said Steven Landry, Executive Vice President, North American Sales. Employee Pricing Plus Plus offers qualified buyers employee pricing, as well as zero percent financing for up to 48 months through Chrysler financial. These great deals should encourage tentative buyers to conclude that buying a Chrysler, Jeep, or Dodge vehicle now is a smart move, both for themselves and for the economy.

New Nissan vehicles in 2010

By Emily Zahm

It begins with an $118 million dollar expansion of a Canton, Mississippi auto plant, and will end with the production of one of Nissan’s planned line of light-commercial vehicles. This new line, according to Nissan’s vice president of manufacturing, Dan Bednarzyk, “will put them in the right position for the market” come 2010. This extensive expansion includes a new assembly line, a larger paint shop, and a larger assembly area. While Bednarzyk declined to comment on which of the planned 3 light-commercial vehicles would be assembled at the newly expanded plant, there is speculation that it will likely be the NV200 work van, which recently debuted in production form. For more information, see this article.

Nissan Planning Electric Vehicle Charging Network

by Tim Joseph

In 1996 we started seeing a small, funny looking car driving around the highways of Detroit. It was the GM EV1, an electric vehicle that would only be made for 3 years. As part of the lease on the EV1 you had to install a charging station in your home. The driver would be able to travel about 55 to 75 miles between charges making the EV1 an excellent commuter vehicle.

There were so many great things to say about GM's first electric car but there were also some draw backs. You could not travel any further than your battery range and battery technology did not progress as quickly as General Motors had expected. After building 1,117 EV1's and leasing them in California, GM took the vehicles back and destroyed them. This was about the same time the Hybrids came along.

Nissan has an answer the problems GM ran in to a decade ago. Their new electric vehicle will go one sale in the United States in 2012 and will no doubt raise some eye brows. A 30 minute charge will provide the owner with 80% battery power, approximately 80 more miles.

Mark Perry, Nissan's director of product planning and strategy has said that "It will take three layers of charging: home chargers in the garage; workplace charging, including parking lots and garages in downtown business areas; and a public infrastructure built around the normal transportation areas, shopping malls, movie theaters, restaurants, and airports."

Nissan is also asking their dealers to install charging stations as a courtesy to customer who are passing through. This demonstrates Nissan's commitment to the Electric Vehicle program. Nissan's Electric Vehicle will be a 5 seater that uses next generation lithium ion batteries to delivery a range of 100 miles.

Motorcyclists Benefit From Stiumulus

Motorcyclists To Benefit From Stimulus Package
The AMA says there are benefits for motorcyclists

http://www.cyclenews.com/articles/road-racing/2009/02/14/AMA-Stimulus

The following is from the AMA...
Language that provides a tax credit for the purchase of a motorcycle has been added to the current economic stimulus bill, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports. The AMA, working in conjunction with other stakeholders, worked diligently to secure the motorcycle provision within the measure. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law shortly.

"This inclusive and equitable solution will provide much-needed relief to riders, as well as to those who sell motorcycles," said AMA Vice President for Government Relations Ed Moreland. "When it appeared that motorcycles were going to be overlooked in this bill, the AMA and the Association's members, along with Harley-Davidson and others, took our case straight to Capitol Hill and persuaded lawmakers that this was the right decision."

Moreland added that motorcycle riders are just as likely to have been hit hard by the economic downturn as those who buy automobiles and light-duty trucks. Moreover, motorcyclists typically purchase new bikes, apparel, vehicle servicing and aftermarket equipment from local dealers that are family-owned small businesses.

Specifically, motorcycles are included as "qualified vehicles" in Section 1008 of the legislation. Those purchasing a new motorcycle will be able to deduct the sales and excise taxes on their 2009 tax returns. Prior to the actions taken by the AMA and others, the deductions only applied to the purchase of a new car or light truck.

"We want to thank all motorcyclists who took the time to contact their elected officials," said Moreland. "This victory is particularly gratifying because it represents a community-wide effort to elevate motorcycles as a recognized and viable means of transportation in America. Motorcycles are vital to the reduction of traffic congestion, provide efficient use of limited parking, have far less impact on our roads and bridges, and contribute significantly to our nation's efforts to consume less fuel. Our success today clearly indicates that our legislators are listening."

Inspiration For a Passionate Nissan 370Z

by Tim Joseph

When I was a kid growing up in the Detroit area I used to love to draw pictures of cars. While I wasn't very good at it I dreamed of fast exotic sports cars and what it would be like to drive them. Some kids were much better than I was and have turned that passion and talent into a career that represents the imagination inside all of us.

Randy Rodriguez is the man behind the 2009 Nissan 370Z. He was a kid just like me, in fact he's just a year younger. He used to fill his notebooks with his dreams of fast and exciting sports cars. I read a very inspiring article about how he came to design the new 370Z. He is 31 years old, working at the Nissan Design America in San Diego, CA. He graduated from Detroit's College for Creative Studies. Rodriguez deisgned the vehicle after Datsun 240Z which he is very passionate about.

It is no suprise that the new 2009 370Z was designed after the 240Z. That was my observation from the first time I saw it on October 9, 2008. The 370Z will hit the lots in the next couple months. We'll keep you updated.

Indian Tales: Lawrence Ward

Thank you to Lawrence Ward for this story -

My wife's grandfather, John Barthel, grew up in Richville, Michigan and bought this Indian motorcycle brand new. He was so proud of it he went to Saginaw and had his picture taken with it. He then rode it from Michigan to Mexico and back. That was at the time when roads were much rougher than they are today. Family history has him making the trip with no problems. It was the scandal of Richville!

Check out other pictures from our friends, post your own and send us a story or two at IndianMotorcycleDetroit.Com!

2010 Nissan Electric Vehicle Update

by Tim Joseph

Nissan has announced some pretty exciting news regarding their forth coming electric vehicle. In August Nissan gave us a demonstration of a 2nd generation Nissan Cube that was converted into an electric vehicle. While it remains unclear if the Cube will actually be the frame for their electric vehicle, we have been given some details.

Yesterday, Mark Perry, director of product planning and strategy for Nissan Americas, spoke at the Doubletree Hotel at a luncheon sponsored by the Chattanooga Engineers Club, the Chattanooga Technology Council, the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Quality, the Society of Women Engineers and IEEE. He said the vehicle will debut next year and that Smyrna, Tennessee would be one of the launch sites.

Here is a quit list of information he gave us regarding the vehicle.

  • The vehicle will have a range of 100 miles
  • The vehicle is 17 months away
  • It will be a "Real Car" that seats up to 5 w/ standard amenities
  • It will be powered by a stack of batteries under the rear seat
  • The batteries will be about the size of a laptop
  • The vehicle will have Zero emission and no engine noise
  • It will be fast enough to get a speeding ticket on the interstate
  • 72% of drivers drive less than 40 miles per day
  • 98% of drivers drive less than 100 miles per day
  • The electricity it uses will cost less than a tank of gas
  • The vehicle has no transmission
  • A fast charge will only take 26 minutes.

This is an exciting development and I for one cannot wait to see the finished product.

2009 Nissan Cube First Drive

I don't like to just post links but Nissan has a couple of exciting new vehicles coming out and I haven't been able to get my hands on them myself. Additionally, Nissan is giving us bits of information but most of the information 1) has been given out or 2) is being told through magazines and news outlets.

Automobile Magazine has gotten their hands on a 2009 Nissan Cube and has driven it. Unlike other "first drive" articles, they actually drove it! At the bottom of the article is a section where they give links to a couple of other links and a wallpaper gallery. Enjoy

Nissan Tests Technology That Will Warn You If You Go The Wrong Way

by Tim Joseph

In my oppinion the funniest car scene in television came in the classic John Candy and Steve Martin movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". The two were trying to get home for the holidays after their flight was canceled. John Candy was driving and Steve Martin was in the passenger seat sleeping (is my memory correct?). John Candy ended driving the wrong way on the highway. Another motorist in the correct lane was trying to warn him of this fact but he thought they were the crazy ones driving on the wrong side of the road. Long story short, they both survived but the whole thing was a disaster.

Nissan has developed technology that would have helped the late great John Candy. The system uses GPS technology and detailed map information to warn drivers if they get on the wrong ramp. My grandma on my dad's side actually did this on a number of occasions in her later years. The system will be tested in Japan this year and if it proves successful will work its way into the rental car industry first.

Unfortunately John Candy and my grandma are no longer with us but I'm sure there is a whole generation of bad drivers out there who will indeed make this a very useful technology.

Yes We Can Sale - Australia

The president of the United States is often referred to as the most powerful man in the free world. It is amazing how much other countries pay attention to what happens here. I cannot tell you who the president of Australia is but the Aussies have come up with an advertising campaign that tells me they know who our president is and obviously he is very popular there.

Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR

by Tim Joseph

The year was 1992. There were riots in Los Angeles, the Olympics in France, the Toronto Blue Jays became the first Canadian baseball team to win the World Series, Bill Clinton became the 42nd president and the first Dodge Viper rolled off the line at Chrysler's Mack Avenue plant. Since then 25,000 Vipers have been built and the plant operates to its 1,200 vehicle per year capacity.

Pictured above is the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR which we all drooled over at this years North American International Auto Show. It is powered by a monstrous 8.4-liter V-10 engine and puts out 600 horsepower. Currently it holds the top time at the Nurburgring with a time of 7:22.1 beating out even the Nissan GT-R. This is definitely an amazing machine.

The story probably will not end here. Chrysler announced they will sell off the Viper brand and it sounds as if there is a lot of serious interest. The problem is that Chrysler's business model doesn't support a hand built, limited production vehicle. There will no doubt be someone out there who will be able to produce the Viper and be profitable doing so. The story is yet to be written.

Nissan has been building a Nissan Versa equipped with a smaller engine (1.6L as opposed to 1.8L) and lacking certain things like power windows and locks for a couple months now. The base price? $9,990! The low cost model has been selling so well, in fact, we can't even keep them on the lot. This review will tell you why. The good and the bad (if you can even find any bad for that price).

Nissan Announces Advanced Hybrid Batteries

by Tim Joseph

A little more than two years ago I was at Nissan's Tech Center in Farmington Hills, MI. The new Altima was being delivered to dealers and Nissan had us come in for a presentation. During the presentation someone asked when we could expect to get the Hybrid Altima in Michigan. We were told Nissan planned to have it in all 50 states sometime in 2010. They told us that hybrids at that point had not been profitable and that Nissan wanted to do things right before they were going to sell it. Fair enough I thought. Dozens of people since then have asked me about the Hyrid Altima and I have always told them probably 2010.

Today I was reading that Nissan is planning to roll out some hybrids in 2010. They sound like they're right on track to meet the promised goal. They have committed to bringing a completely electric vehicle to the market by 2010 so why not a couple of hybrids? Nissan has stated that they will debut a completely unique hybrid vehicle in 2010. The new vehicle will feature advanced laminated compact lithium-ion batteries which will be mounted under the floor.

It looks as if Nissan will be able to do things right now and get the hybrids out there.

I will follow this story and keep you posted on any updates that come about in the next year.

This was followed by the big announcement that they were merging with Fiat. Chrysler has now been rolling out some new incentives. Chrysler, LLC and Fiat have agreed on terms that will give the Italian automaker 35% stake in Chrysler and will, in exchange, share technology with Chrysler. Fiat will not imediately put cash into Chrysler but will, however, supply Chrysler with their fuel efficient vehicle platform and other assets, as well as expand Chrysler's reach in Europe.

Details are still emerging and I'll keep you posted as I hear things.

Chrysler 200C EV Concept

Chrysler unveiled another electric vehicle this weekend. This time a family sedan there aren't a lot of details but here is a picture.

Chrysler Unveils Dodge Circuit EV

by Tim Joseph

What an exciting weekend. The biggest event of the year is upon us at the North American International Auto Show. Chrysler unveiled their all new electric vehicle, the Dodge Circuit. This is the reason we will go to the auto show this year. The Dodge Circuit is similar to Chrysler's previous offering back in September but, as promised, looks more Dodge than Lotus.

The Dodge Circuit is a big step in electric vehicles. It is able to go from 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds and has a top speed of 120 miles per hour. It features a 268-horsepower electric motor, an advanced lithium-ion battery system and a controller that manages energy flow. Owner's of the Circuit will be able to travel 150-200 miles between charges and plugs in to a standard 110-Volt outlet.

While the 2 seat sports car may not be ideal for everyone, it certainly is a large step in the right direction. In September we saw three electric models. Chrysler could lead the electric vehicle charge and change the face of Detroit with this technology. For you environmentally conscious, the Dodge Circuit does not use any gasoline and leaves virtually no impact on the environment.

Dodge ENVI Electric Car

by Tim Joseph

Well now we finally have a reason to go to the North American International Autoshow and it is a really good reason. Chrysler has announced that it will unveil a new addition to its small lineup of electric cars. This time, instead of slapping a Lotus body on it (something we didn't mind too much anyway) they will have a design that looks more Dodge..ish. Although Chrysler hasn't given us any teasers yet, we can only speculate that this may be another concept looking vehicle. Chrysler's goal is to have an electric vehicle on the road in 2010.

Dick Scott Automotive Group 2008 Recap

by Tim Joseph

I moved from our Nissan store to the Dodge store at the end of April. My first blog article was written on May 7th to announce the Refuel America Program. Gas was close to $4 per gallon and sales were down. Chrysler offered customers the chance to lock in to $2.99 per gallon for three years. That wasn't the only big announcement in May. We also announce the "Dick Scott Difference." This is a list of reasons why we're better. Things like our rewards program for example. May was also the month Field Elementary School's PTA President, Ann Marie Rockov and Principal, Pete Kudlak stopped by to pick up their $880 check for participating in our PTA program. The Motor City Viper Owners had their annual Spring Tech Day as well. I had so much fun that month.

In June we went Green when little recycle boxes showed up on all of our desks. Now we were to recycle all of our paper. We were also collecting cell phones for recycling. Proceeds would benefit the Plymouth YMCA. This year I plan to run in their Father's day 5k. With summer in full swing, gas prices topped $4/gallon and people were nearly in a panic. That is when I wrote my Fuel Economy Series (part 1, 2, 3, 3 1/2, 4). The posts were extremely popular. That is also the month we gave away four Detroit Tiger tickets to Shigeo Kato for signing up for Service Scheduling on our website.

Yes there were a lot of high points but some points were not so high. In July Chrysler announced they would be ending their leasing program the following week. Sure, we leased a ton of cars that week but the following week was not that great. Since then things have bounced back to normal. August was a month of vacations for some of us. The blog wasn't as active but Nissan showed off their electric vehicle for a small audience in Japan! Then in September Chrysler 1 upped them by unveiling THREE electric cars!

One of the highlights of Mr. Scott's year was playing a round of golf with PGA pro Ken Duke. The two hit it off so well that Ken added Dick Scott Automotive Group to his golf bag! Since then Ken has started wearing a shirt with our logo on it.

It's hard to believe but it was way back in October that we announce the coming of Indian Motorcycle Detroit. That is the post that sparked the most response. I have Indian Motorcycle owners emailing me almost daily in anticipation of the coming bike shop. My favorite blog post to date came soon after titled A Brief History of Indian Motorcycle Part 1. Indian Motorcycle riders finally have a place in Detroit to hang their.. uh... Chaps? October was also a fun month because of Halloween. Dick Scott Dodge hosted a pumpkin carving contest and the winner received a $500 gas card. The winner, Derek Baer, was in Japan for three weeks and him and his wife, Sara, didn't come in to pick up his prize until November.

Finally in December we hosted a Toys For Tots toy drive. It was amazing to see the community come together to donate so many toys. We filled four pickup trucks and one mini van full of toys. Thank you again to everyone who donated, customers, employees and people who had never been in our stores before! We ended the year with our double rewards points promotion. Very simple. Buy a car, get twice as many rewards points.

As you can see, we are very busy here at Dick Scott Automotive group. This is just a short recap and I haven't even mentioned all the Best Shot Deals, Employee Spotlights, Service Specials and, of course my favorite, Tim's Travel Tips.

Thank you for making 2008 a great year for us and we look forward to seeing you in 2009!
