Tim's Travel Tips: Erwin's Orchards

by Tim Joseph

My wife found Erwin's Orchards last year and we took the kids. Upon arrival my youngest, just 1 1/2 at the time, was tired and hadn't had a nap that day. My oldest, 9 going on 10 at the time, was begging us for everything she could set her eyes on. At the end of the day I walked out wishing we could go back the next day and everyone had a fun time.

If you want to go to an apple orchard to sit in the barn and drink cider then this is not the place for you. Erwin's boasts 200 acres of apples. Not just apples but 14 different varieties of apples. You can also pick pumpkins and depending on the time of the year they have raspberries and cherries.

My favorite was the corn maze. Nothing is more fun than a good ol' corn maze. This one isn't necessarily hard to get through but there are six posts hidden throughout the maze. At each post there is a punch to punch your card with a different shape. It isn't easy to find every post but once you do you can redeem it for a free glass of cider and a donut.

Erwin's is located at the corner of Pontiac Trail and Silver Lake Road in South Lyon, MI. They're open 9AM to 5:30PM Daily until October 31st. Coupons and driving directions are posted on their website at http://www.erwinorchards.com/. I didn't see any pricing information for apples on the website but there is a number you can call. Corn maze is $5, Barn of Horrors is $5 and children's spooky barn is $2.
