2015 Chrysler 200 Earns 2014 Top Safety Pick+ Award

ARLINGTON, Virginia — The redesigned 2015 Chrysler 200 midsize sedan earned the highest2014 Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Standard safety features on the Chrysler 200 include electronic stability control, antilock brakes and eight airbags, including driver and front passenger knee airbags. Optional safety features include a rearview camera and rear cross-path detection.

The Institute noted that the 2015 Chrysler 200 earned the top rating of "good" in its small overlap front crash test, "a step up from the previous generation's rating of acceptable."

The crash test replicates what happens when the front corner of a vehicle strikes another vehicle or an object such as a tree or a utility pole.

"In the small overlap test, the driver's space was maintained well and injury measures recorded on the dummy indicated a low risk of any significant injuries in a real-world crash of this severity," the Institute said in a statement on Tuesday.

The 200 earns a superior rating for front crash protection when equipped with its optional forward collision warning system with autobrake, part of a $1,295 package called SafetyTec. The package is available on certain models, including the 2015 Chrysler 200C FWD.

The Institute has not rated key competitors to the 2015 Chrysler 200, including the 2015 Ford FusionHonda Accord and Toyota Camry. The 2014 Fusion and Accord earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, while the 2014 Camry earned the Top Safety Pick award.

Edmunds says: This is a major safety achievement for the 2015 Chrysler 200 and something that should catch the attention of car shoppers in this crowded segment.
