Below is the original article about when Tanya found out she was selected as the recipient of the Life Remodeled Home!....

It was the best birthday present Tanya Ray had ever received.
Out to lunch with some family members to celebrate earlier this summer, she received a phone call. It was from the Life Remodeled people.
She and her four children had been selected as recipients of a new home.
“It was just unbelievable to know it went, from 93 applicants, to us. We were the final family,” she said. “It was like I went numb. It was the best birthday gift ever.”
Ray and her children will take control of a new home in the 19100 block of Poinciana later this month after it's built by Life Remodeled volunteers. They were selected after months of thought and consideration by Life Remodeled in Redford, being run by several area churches.
The program selects a family to be the recipient, and donates materials and labor to build a home for them. After owning the home responsibly for three years, the family receives the title.
Homes have been built for families in other communities, including Westland and Farmington Hills.
The Rev. Mike Gorr, pastor at Mercy Road Church and leader of the Life Remodeled project in Redford, said while it was difficult selecting just one family, he's happy Ray and her children will be able to settle into the new home once it's complete.
The field was eventually narrowed down from nearly 100 to three before the final selection.
“Of those three, a single mom with four kids was chosen to receive the benefits,” Gorr said. “There's a need there. We felt like this was the best choice at this point.”
Construction on the home will begin Aug. 20, and will wrap up by Aug. 26. A celebration to pass over the keys to the home is planned for 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at the home on Poinciana, near Seven Mile and Inkster.
Volunteers and financial donations are still needed to complete the project, Gorr said. Anyone looking to donate can do so by going to mercyroadchurch.org and clicking the Life Remodeled tab. Checks can also be mailed to P.O. Box 401466, Redford, MI 48240.
Gorr said the project has raised more than $20,000 already. He's anticipating getting to building later this month.
“If we're going to serve the world, we believe it starts in our hometown,” he said. “It was a project that fit with our mission as a church.”
Ray, who has lived in Redford for the last three years, said the opportunity to settle down will benefit her children greatly.
“They're literally remodeling our lives top to bottom. That's where me and my kids are going to plant our feet,” she said. “They're not giving us a house, they're giving us a home.”
