According to reliable Allpar source oh2o, buyers waiting for a fully refreshed Jeep Cherokee may need to hold off until the 2019 model year. The 2018s are starting production a little early, and ordering for the 2019s is expected to start in January 2018.
oh2o reported that the 2019 Cherokee will have the fourth-generation UConnect system and the Hurricane four-cylinder engine. The current 2.4 and 3.2 liter engines will still be sold, as well.
DarkSky’s rendering, above, shows how the company might make the Cherokee look a little less unusual, while still keeping it different from other Jeeps. The grille is based on that of the Renegade; the main difference, though, is the less unique forward lighting. In back, we expect the large expanse of curved steel to be changed, as well.
Not making the new Cherokee right off the bag makes sense, in terms of reducing risk. Instead of dealing with a new car and new plant, the company can just change the plant, making the existing car; that would also reduce the demand for new Cherokees until the plant is moving at full speed.
