While illnesses, bumps and bruises are difficult to predict, a new service at CVS Pharmacy at Cherry Hill and Canton Center roads in Canton aims to make treating these afflictions quicker and easier.
MinuteClinic opened its seventh Wayne County clinic Jan. 16 at the
CVS location, offering walk-in examinations for minor illnesses,
injuries and skin conditions, as well as a variety of health screenings
and vaccines without the need for making an appointment.
The CVS on 5 Mile and Sheldon roads in Northville also offers MinuteClinic services.
May Hang, CVS' state practice manager for Michigan, said the new
service works as a supplement to one's primary care physician, offering
basic services and the abiilty to write prescriptions any day of the
week on a walk-in basis.
"We're like the first floor on an elevator," Hang said, performing
initial tests and diagnosing minor afflictions or conditions while
urgent care centers and primary physicians can conduct more in-depth
tests.
Additionally, Hang said, the clinic offers wellness screenings, where
patients can receive tips for lifestyle changes to ensure optimal
health.
The clinic accepts most insurance providers and offers low-cost
services for those without insurance. The cost for most treatments
begins at $79.
Anna White, a family nurse practitioner at the clinic, said the
clinic will write prescriptions for the pharmacy of the patient's
choosing, including CVS' own pharmacy just steps from the clinic inside
the store.
Patients looking to utilize the clinic can simply walk into the CVS
location and spot the MinuteClinic kiosk, where they can fill out their
information electronically and wait to be seen, Hang said.
